Chandler School proudly announces a landmark grant from The Children’s Education Initiative (TCEI), a San Diego-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of education for socioeconomically disadvantaged children. Through its generous $1.3 million multi-year grant, the largest in the school’s 75-year history, TCEI will directly support students through their K-8 journey. The grant will increase access and bolster socioeconomic diversity within Chandler School, reinforcing our mission of fostering a caring, challenging and committed learning environment.

In addition to full tuition, the funds will support essential elements that enable students to fully experience Chandler’s well-rounded programs, such as technology, outdoor education, extracurricular activities, community events and school uniforms. By addressing both financial and practical needs, this grant represents a pivotal step forward in making the Chandler’s educational offerings accessible to all, regardless of financial background and ensures a comprehensive approach to accessibility and inclusion.

Chandler’s Head of School, Emily Brown, expressed gratitude for this partnership that aligns with Chandler’s mission and core values. “Chandler is committed to providing the highest quality education in a nurturing, balanced and diverse environment. With TCEI’s support, we are removing financial barriers and making it possible for more students to thrive in our inclusive community. This grant allows us to welcome additional students from underrepresented communities, while providing them with excellent academic programming and multifaceted support to ensure their sense of belongingness and success at Chandler School.”

TCEI selected partner schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to increasing access for underrepresented groups in independent school education. Chandler was recognized for its robust financial aid program, which currently serves 20% of students with nearly $2 million awarded annually. The average financial aid package at Chandler is $19,000, with eligible families receiving up to 90% off tuition. Additionally, as part of Chandler’s commitment to cultivating belonging for all learners, Chandler prioritizes the implementation of culturally responsive and affirming curricula. Chandler’s focus on social-emotional well-being, academic excellence and innovative curriculum further underscored its alignment with TCEI’s mission.

With TCEI’s grant, Chandler will continue to deepen its outreach and relationships in Pasadena and neighboring communities, actively pursuing a future where educational excellence and inclusion go hand in hand. Our connection with TCEI marks the beginning of a promising journey that will enrich the community and empower students to become compassionate, thoughtful leaders of tomorrow.
