OCTOBER 30, 2024, EL CERRITO, CA - Prospect Sierra School (Prospect Sierra) is excited to announce a multi-year grant from The Children’s Education Initiative (TCEI), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in San Diego, CA dedicated to improving the quality of education for socioeconomically disadvantaged children. TCEI has awarded Prospect Sierra a $1.3 million grant to fund multiple students from kindergarten through 8th grade.

In its outreach to potential partner schools, TCEI focused on schools that were actively working to enhance access for underrepresented groups in independent schools. TCEI selected Prospect Sierra as a partner based on its commitment to its core values of love, justice, innovation and impact. Prospect Sierra’s long-standing dedication to equity and justice, emphasis on student outcomes with a focus on making a difference in the world and commitment to providing access to a quality education were key factors in this decision.

Head of School Nisa Frank says, “Increasing socioeconomic diversity at Prospect Sierra is, and has always been, a strategic priority. At Prospect Sierra, we know that academic outcomes are improved, problem-solving skills are enhanced and compassion for others is cultivated when diverse perspectives and experiences are prioritized. This transformative grant from TCEI will help Prospect Sierra fulfill its vision of enabling more students to make choices that benefit the world, no matter their families’ income levels.”

Prospect Sierra’s flexible tuition program has been pivotal in making an impactful education accessible to a diverse range of students. Currently, one third of Prospect Sierra families pay flexible tuition. Director of Enrollment and Outreach Renée Thompson adds, “Prospect Sierra seeks to enroll students with a deep love of learning, and we know that these students can be found in every community. We are thrilled that this partnership will help expand access to more families, ensuring that learners from diverse backgrounds will have access to Prospect Sierra.”

Prospect Sierra is deeply grateful to TCEI for its generosity. This grant marks the beginning of a lasting partnership between Prospect Sierra and TCEI, highlighting the shared commitment to the power of independent school education in shaping young people’s future contributions to society.
